ORISA ERINLE, OKO, OGUN, OSOOSI AND ESU: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES IN SPIRITUALITY AND FOR SELF DEFENSE

Orisa Erinle, Oko, Osoosi, and Esu are all deities or spirits from the Yoruba religion, which is primarily practiced in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. While they are distinct entities with their own characteristics and functions, there are some connections and similarities between them.Yoruba Pantheon: All four entities belong to the Yoruba pantheon of deities, which is a complex and extensive system of spiritual beings. The Yoruba pantheon includes numerous gods, goddesses, ancestors, and spirits, each with their own domains and attributes.

  ORISA:

Erinle, Oko, Osoosi, and Esu are all considered orisa, which can be roughly translated as "deities" or "spirits" in English. Orisa are revered and worshipped in Yoruba religion as intermediaries between humans and the supreme deity, Olodumare.

  SPECIFIC ROLES AND ATTRIBUTES:

ORISA ERINLE:

Erinle is associated with healing and medicine. He is often depicted as a hunter and is believed to have the ability to cure various ailments and diseases. People seek his assistance for healing and well-being.

ORISA OKO

Oko is the orisa of agriculture, fertility, and farming. He is associated with the cultivation of crops, abundance, and prosperity in agricultural endeavors. Farmers and those involved in agricultural activities often invoke Oko for blessings and success. He does have a warrior aspect, as he protects the crops, farmers, and children from dangerous weather, thieves of livestock, crops, etc. and attacking animals.

ORISA OSOOSI:

Osoosi is the orisa of hunting, justice, and divination. He is revered as a skilled hunter and tracker, as well as a guardian of the cosmic balance and moral order. Osoosi is also sought after for his abilities in divination and helping to resolve legal matters.

ORISA ESU

Esu is a complex and multifaceted orisa often referred to as the trickster deity. He is in fact much more than a "trickster God" in the European sense of say...Loki...or other entities. Esu has many noble paths, which are balanced by an equal number of "trickster" paths. Esu is the messenger of the gods and acts as the intermediary between humans and the other orisa. Esu is associated with crossroads, choices, communication, and balance. He is considered both a benevolent and mischievous force, representing the dualities and uncertainties of life.

 INTERCONNECTEDNESS:

While each orisa has its own distinct domain and characteristics, they are not completely isolated from each other. In Yoruba religion, there is a belief in the interconnectedness and interdependence of the orisa. They can interact and collaborate with each other, as well as influence human lives in various ways. For example, in certain rituals or ceremonies, offerings may be made to multiple orisa simultaneously, acknowledging their interconnected roles and powers. It's important to note that Yoruba religion is diverse, and different regions or practitioners may have variations in their beliefs and practices. The descriptions provided here offer a general understanding of the connection and similarities between Orisa Erinle, Oko, Osoosi, and Esu, but there may be additional nuances and interpretations within the Yoruba religious tradition.

SOME UNIQUE INTERPRETATIONS UNIQUE TO MY SELF DEFENSE AND WHOLE HUMAN DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM OF NJIA UHURU KIPURA

In my self defense and whole human development system of NJIA UHURU KIPURA [ "KIPURA'S WAY OF FREEDOM/THE WAY OF REEDUM USING KIPURA" ] every single Orisa has its own interpretation of every single technique in the system...including the healing, spiritual, philosophical, dance, play, etc facets of my system. The spheres of influence, the areas of elemental dominance, the favored animals foods colors etc have a direct translation to and for the Orisa being expressed. And even when the Orisa have the same or overlapping element or favored animals, the way each specific Orisa expresses that element or animal is specific and unique. Noticeable and exclusive. To that Orisa. For example, both Ogun and Osoosi have "mbinu na ujuzi wa tumbili"..."techniques and skills of the monkey"...but Ogun is also the master of iron and technology. So Ogun would be the only one to use the IRON MONKEY techniques, whereas Osoosi is a Master Astral Traveler and the perfect hunter. Osoosi would possess the Monkey Bow and Monkey Archer skills, which are extremely valuable as these skills translate directly to simian mobility [ especially with firearms ] seeking cover, and with hand held weapons during, before and after the self defense, fighting, sportive, exercise and play versions of what is often referred to in wrestling or MMA as "scrambles" . Furthermore, in our system Osoosi has more affiliation with the Water Element than does Ogun [ whose primary elements are Iron first and Fire next in our system ] so between Ogun and Osoosi? Osoosi would be the sole possessor of the techniques, tactics and maneuvers of The River Monkeys all over the world. Because in our system Erinle is the direct connection [ via the hunter's need to heal him/herself, comrades, hunting animal allies, knowing where poisons are and which poisons to use to takedown prey or to neutralize if prey...like a venomous snake...manages to infect the hunter, etc ] from Babalu Aye to Osoosi, the orisa Oko is more closely linked to Esu and is the "esu" that Esu Laaroya uses most often to visit with and learn from Osoosi. In our system, by far the most versatile Orisa is Esu. Esu walks with all other Orisa, and learns fro mthe skills that places him second only to that specific Orisa in the relevant skills [ unless that specific Orisa has children, then Esu is equivalent to the child possessing the desired skill set that is second to the skills that the parent Orisa pursues ]. The child...via direct tutelage from the Orisa with the supreme skill in question...may grow to equal the skill or power of the supreme Orisa, but Esu never can rise above being second to who/whatever isthe supreme expression of skill, power and/or knowledge in the area that Esu pursues. For example, in our system, Osoosi is the son of Osun [ despite the differences often required by Ifa ]. Therefore, Esu has dance skills equal to or slightly lesser than Osoosi, as Osoosi has learned directly from the supreme dancer herself: Osun. If Osoosi ever becomes the equal to Osun in dancing skills, Esu will occupy the second highest dancing skill under the two of them. If Osoosi somehow pulls off the impossible feat of surpassing Osun in dance skills...which again is essentially impossible, unless The Supreme Creator God...Esu would find himself third in dancing skills, behind Osoosi and Osun.

My gun disarms, I am proud to say, have worked all 19 times since the year 2000 they were used. None of my students were hurt while using the self defense skill I taught to them.

I'm going to quickly share with you the important history about the art of my family, Njia Uhuru Kipura.

Njia Ya Kupata Uhuru Kwa Kutumia Kipura..."The Way of Getting Freedom Using Kipura"...is the full real name of my family's art. But that's a lot to say. So we shorten it to "Njia Uhuru Kipura". Kipura's Way of Freedom or The Way of Freedom. As we all know, my family's Njia Uhuru Kipura is descended from the original Kipura of Kongo, the devastating war art that was probably created in BAMBA, the war capitol of Kongo.

This BAMBA OF KONGO is the same BAMBA that Capoeiristas in Brasil sing about in their oldest songs like EU SOU BAMBA

In these songs? These "Capoeiristas" acknowledge that they are actually Kipura warriors from the region of Bamba.

The Kipura of Kongo created every single legend of "Capoeira" in Brasil, as all of these warriors are actually warriors of Kipura. Not "Capoeira". The Portuguese term "Capoeira" is the result of the mispronounciation of the correct word "KIPURA/KIPULA" of the KiKongo language of Kongo. "

"Capoeira" was first used in public documents in Brasil during the year 1712, 207 years after Afrikans were already using Kipura to defeat Brazil, Portugal, the Dutch and occasionally the Spanish in wars in or near Brasil. https://streetsmartbrazil.com/when-capoeira-would-land-you-prison/

This same art and/or its cognates was used everywhere in the Americas that Afrikans traveled, including the USA...where it was also called Knocking and Kicking. The Afrikans in the USA called The Gullah and The Geechee used this cognate of Kipura to fight and win a 50-100 Year War, establishing their independence and freedom during American Slavery.

We can see the overarching impact of Kipura on both Jailhouse Rock and 52 Blocks, which themselves are hybrid portions of the more comprehensive and deadlier Kipura of Kongo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jailhouse_rock_(fighting_style)

My art of Njia Uhuru Kipura is a modernization, improvement upon, and continuance of the amazing Afrikan self defense legacy of the legendary ancestors before me.
