DON'T FORGET GABBY DOUGLAS!! [ HOW WEIRD IS IT TO SAY "DON'T FORGET GABBY DOUGLAS". IT'S NOT LIKE SHE ISN'T THE WORLD'S FIRST BLACK OLYMPIC MEDALIST, THE WORLD'S FIRST AND ONLY THUS FAR AMERICAN ALL AROUND GOLD INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM WINNER. IT'S NOT LIKE SHE'S THE CLUTCH PERFORMER LEADER OF THE USA WOMEN'S TEAM, TAKING THE USA TO ITS HISTORIC OLYMPIC TEAM GOLD. OOOHHH WAIT!! YES SHE IS!! ]
...AAAAND I predicted this, too! Although many of my gymnastics brethren thought that this was a very likely occurrence, just as I did; quite a lot of people in the international community felt that neither Simone nor any other Black athlete possessed the requisite fine motor skills, finesse, intellect, etc to be a true Gymnastic World Champion.
Yeah, you read that right. The international teams flashed their dislike of people of the chocolate persuasion. Suddenly the international teams at the Gymnastic World Championships looked less like elite international powerhouse teams full of some of the greatest athletes the world will ever have, and more like The International House of Haters.
So...whippin them like pancake butter was even ore satisfying, lol.
With the most powerful 1-2 punch in the world with Gabby and Simone, I really like Team USA's chances of snatching Gold this year in the Summer Olympics. We're peaking at the right time, it seems like. The Karolyis are on target. But there's still quite a few who hate on the USA. Especially the Chocolate Champs, the Black Binary Stars, The Ebony Enchantresses, The Fly Flipstas, the Vaultin Vixens,...you get where I'm going with this...Simone and Gabby.
And when I say ""quite a few? I mean many of the numerous crowd members participants and judges You can see the racist reactions to Simone's win from competitors to judges. And when I say "racist"? Well...I will let the words of Carlotta Ferlito...world class gymnast...and a high ranking Italian official who tried to justify Carlotta's position speak for themselves.
Makes Floyd Mayweather's comments regarding the racist favoritism athletes like Conor and Ronda received seem more accurate, doesn't it? That's because Floyd was right.
Even as recently as a few years ago, the incredible racism in the NFL against Black quarterbacks exploded yet again. And if you think it stops there? Nope. Statistics reveal that Black quarterbacks are benched twice as often and nearly twice as fast as White quarterbacks...when the Black quarterbacks have a bad game that is equivalent in stats as their White quarterback brethren who are NOT benched.
This report happened just a few months ago. In 2015. And if you think this report indicates that there are other prominent factors being ignored or skewed? Think again. The report notes with startlingly powerful statistics that teams IMPROVE LESS when a Black quarterback is benched after a poor performance [ regardless of the race of his backup ], but THEY IMPROVE MORE WHEN A WHITE QUARTERBACK IS REPLACED UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. But the NFL refuses to replace the White QB twice as much as they refuse to replace the Black QB. This state of affairs CANNOT EXIST if THE SOLE DOMINANT CONCERN WAS WINNING. That means? Yep. The NFL is still racist.
As the musician Prince said in 2014:"Black people don't get second chances." This is a very strong sentiment shared by many young Afrikan-Americans and some not so young Afrikan-Americans, like me.
When was a White gymnast EVER referred to as being less gifted aesthetically intellectually and artistically because of his or her race? Never. But...it happened to every Black athlete from Dominique Dawes aka "Awesome Dawesome", the amazing anchor of the Fab Five all the way to the African American lady stars of today, Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas
When has a White soccer star been boo'd and had such a rabid bunch of racists razz him, they actually threw a banana on the field at him to indicate that he is a monkey or gorilla? Never.
When has a White tennis star been razzed by racist crowds to the point that she burst into tears, as Serena Williams experienced? Never.
When has any White athlete or group of White athletes from different sports faced racism so vile and powerful and entrenched, that a sitting President had to moderate the matter, as President Clinton had to do with Brown, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and others? Answer:Never.
But. Even after all that? There are at least 10 great reasons to be extremely proud of and a fan of Simone and Gabby, as my friends from thefrisky.com point out with their detailed breakdown of the Superfly Somersaultin Soul Sistahs. They will keep on keepin on, and most of us should strive to follow their amazing examples.
