THAT TIME OSOOSI AND ESU WORKED TOGETHER...
In Yoruba mythology, the Orisha Osoosi and Esu are often depicted as working together in various contexts. Osoosi is the Orisha of the hunt, forests, and justice, while Esu is the Orisha of crossroads, communication, and trickery. Although they have distinct roles and characteristics, their collaboration showcases the interconnectedness of different Orishas and their abilities to work towards common goals.
One significant instance of Osoosi and Esu working together can be seen in the story of the capture of the cunning elephant.
According to the legend, there was an elephant terrorizing the village, destroying crops and causing havoc. The villagers sought the help of Osoosi, known for his expertise in hunting and tracking. Osoosi agreed to assist them in capturing the elephant and restoring peace.
As Osoosi set out on the hunt, he realized that he would need Esu's assistance to outsmart the clever elephant.
Osoosi approached Esu and explained the situation, requesting his aid in devising a plan. Esu, known for his cunning and knowledge of tricks, agreed to help.
Together, Osoosi and Esu devised a strategy to capture the elephant. Esu used his abilities to create an illusion of a vast forest, confusing the elephant and making it believe that it had escaped into a dense wilderness. Meanwhile, Osoosi, utilizing his tracking skills, followed the true footprints of the elephant and closed in on it.
As the elephant moved deeper into the illusory forest, it became disoriented and eventually exhausted.
Osoosi, guided by Esu, managed to track the real footprints and approached the elephant from behind, successfully capturing it without harm to either the elephant or anyone else. Osoosi wanted to release the clever elephant in the wild, closer to its original habitat, whereas Esu wanted to enlist the elephant in a scheme he had to aggravate and annoy several families he felt didn't worship him enough by unleashing the elephant on one of their granaries of food that was stored for the eventuality of food shortages in winter.
Osoosi...being a devout believer in justice...persuaded Esu that rekeasing the clever elephant in his original habitat would be better for all involved.
This collaboration between Osoosi and Esu demonstrates the complementary nature of their powers. Osoosi's hunting skills and tracking abilities combined with Esu's trickery and illusions proved to be a formidable combination. It highlights the importance of cooperation and the recognition that different strengths can be utilized to achieve a common objective.
In Yoruba mythology, the Orishas often work together in similar ways, acknowledging the diverse talents and qualities each brings to a situation. This particular story exemplifies the synergy that can be created when Orishas collaborate, emphasizing the interconnectedness of their roles and the importance of their collective contributions.
Such collaboration is also manifested within the self defense, healing, and whole human development system of Njia Uhuru Kipura via the Strategies, Tactics, Principles, Concepts, named techniques, etc specific to each Orisha and their manifestation in Njia Uhuru Kipura.
