I was asked by my friend how I would deal with a criminal who approached me, and pointed his gun at me. .I responded with the techniques in the video below:



I asked my Filipino friend if his teachers...Kali and Capoeira teachers...provided him any options under those circumstances. He said: "No." I offered to show him more of these kinds of techniques if he was interested, and he enthusiastically agreed. He in turn graciously offered to share his knowledge of Kali...by which he meant mostly Escrima...with me.

I not only accepted...can't have too many good training partners...but I dropped the biggest bomb on him of his self defense training career. I pointed out to him that Kali was not only part of Kipura, but his brand of Kali came DIRECTLY from Kipura warriors.

He found that difficult to believe, until I hit him with a simple set of facts. HE ALREADY KNEW THAT KALI AS A DISTINCT GODDESS OF WORSHIP WAS FIRST NOTED AROUND 600 A.D. IN THE SUBCONTINENT OF SO-CALLED "INDIA".   He did not, however, know that the year 600 AD coincided directly with the rise of and culture of the Moors as they invaded and controlled "India". Especially in the Sri Lankan region of today. The so-called Moors brought with them the religious practices of Afrika which...for them especially...are the reinvented and largely retained practices of worship which thousands of years earlier was the practice of the religion associated with SEKHMET THE LION GOD/DESS OF KEMET. Complete with the warrior practices of her most ardent followers. This is why there is almost an identical parallel drawn from Sekhmet to Kali today.   And when you add in the fact that the people of Hindustan, Pakistan and Bangladesh...the so-called "subcontinent of India"...are not only long proven to be Afrikan [ why do we have to keep going over this? Ohhhh...yeah...that's right...racism ] by every possible scientific study, the people of "India" themselves are more specifically directly and undeniably Ethiopian in every racial regard and feature. This direct biological and cultural link to Ethiopia and Afrika clears away any mystery about and of course thoroughly underscores the reality of how the Ethiopian-Kemetic practice of worshiping Sekhmet [ Kemet was part of the Empire of Ethiopia in the same way that California is part of the USA ] naturally became, over the passage of thousands of years, the practice of Kali.

My friend made this hilarious sound of surprise...but he couldn't entirely release the racist miseducation that he and most of us have received. He couldn't believe, for instance, that the "Moors" were in fact Afrikan.

I then showed him a picture of the Tamils...the largest, first, oldest and most dominant of the Moors in so-called India. Here is but ONE of the pictures I showed him:



He was knocked into stunned silence.

I followed this up by pointing out the fact that THE PEOPLE WHOM HE MISCALLED "MOORS" BOTH IN THE PHILIPPINES AND OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINES HAVE LONG CALLED THEMSELVES THE GUDALA AND LAMTUNA. WELL KNOWN WARRIOR AND INDUSTRIOUS PEOPLE OF CENTRAL AFRIKA AND MOROCCO. ETHNIC COUSINS OF THE PEOPLE OF KONGO...AND MASTERS OF THE WAR ART OF KIPURA

After many thousands of years of racial intermixture, the Lamtuna...Bedouin Tajakant of Algeria branch, most recognized and largest Lamtuna ethnic branch in existence today...still looks undeniably Black and Afrikan:

The Gudala are also ethnic cousins, former allies, and periodic enemies of their ethnic cousins the Lamtuna. The terms Gudala, Sanhaja and Taureg are essentially interchangeable. Here is a picture of the Tauregs...the in/famous "Blue Men"...even today in Afrika:



So I told my friend that we Afrikans are the source of his entire fighting art, the original settlers and civilization builders of everywhere in Asia...and we created the original still undefeated war art that he calls Kali but mispractices as the much less combatively comprehensive but still deadly art of Escrima. Plus we brought said art to the "Philippines", earned its amazing undefeated reputation, and ensconced it permanently in the archipelago of his home...which was NOT the European controlled areas of the Filipino archipelago. The original deadly art rooted in the originally all Africoid islands of the archipelago. The stamp and influence of both Afrikan Islam [ different from White Arabic Islam ] along with the preservation of Afrikan cultures, languages, innovations, fighting skills etc left an indelible mark that still lasts to this day. Even after more than two thousand years of intermixture, the Afrikan phenotype remains in the islands and typifies Bangsomoro [ the Muslim part of the archipelago and home of magnificent warriors who would commit a form of suicide attack jihad with exclusively bladed weapons upon European police and military with such ferocity and such success, that the European and subsequent American invasions...plural...with all its vaunted firepower, aircraft, naval craft, etc...was halted ]. Wrap almost any of those guys from this picture^^^ of the people of BANGSAMORO THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC IN THE PHILIPPINES in a blue turban-like shawl of the Afrikan Gudala [ so-called "Moor" ] Taureg/"Blue Man" above? And they look like the same person.

Then I said: "You're welcome, by the way."

My friend was comatose with shock. Shortly thereafter? He recovered and was fired up to train together. We've had some great training sessions since then.

Anyway. Back to the gun defense stuff.

While I am not happy to say that the state of crime and racism put my students and myself in situations wherein we had to face armed assailants more frequently since the year 2000, I am very happy to report that my gun and weapon disarms worked easily and almost immediately all 19 times since the year 2000 that I and my students had to use them. 

I told him that the best gun disarm? Is not to be around gun nuts in the first place. I told my friend that my first and habitual pattern of behavior keeps me away from crazy people, as a rule of thumb. As the old saying goes:

 "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."--[ allegedly ] BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

In keeping with that sound advice, I daily practice the Strategy of Avoidance. The best way to prevent a problem? Is to Avoid it in the first place.

Second: If Avoidance fails, I immediately activate the Escape Strategy. If I Escape Trouble? Trouble can't cause me trouble. Understand? This means that we actually practice running while pursued, running while "under fire", executing our Njia Uhuru Kipura stances and maneuvers at full running speed in order to Escape our pursuer[s], etc. You will be AMAZED at HOW EFFECTIVE this is. Age has no negative impact and in fact usually has a MASSIVE POSITIVE IMPACT when executing these maneuvers, because  A CRIMINAL NEVER EXPECTS A MIDDLE AGE OR ELDERLY PERSON [ESPECIALLY A WOMAN ] TO BE SO SWIFT, SPRY, AND ABLE TO ENACT THEIR UNANSWERABLE ADVANTAGES GIVEN BY THEIR DECADES OF MORE LIFE EXPERIENCE AND WISDOM THAN THE IDIOT CRIMINAL HAS.


Third. If the ESCAPE option fails or isn't available? I try

ESCAPE AND EVASION

 and

DE-ESCALATION AND CONTROL

 while I look for any opportunity to Escape. My friend absorbed the information I gave to him, and speedily added same to his training regime.

I'm going to quickly share with you the important history about the art of my family, Njia Uhuru Kipura. 

Njia Ya Kupata Uhuru Kwa Kutumia Kipura..."The Way of Getting Freedom Using Kipura"...is the full real name of my family's art. But that's a lot to say. So we shorten it to "Njia Uhuru Kipura". "Kipura's Way of Freedom" or "The Way of Freedom". As we all know, my family's Njia Uhuru Kipura is descended from the original Kipura of Kongo, the devastating war art that was probably created in BAMBA, the war capitol of Kongo. The same art of Kipura and its cognates created every single warrior of legend in Brasil...without fail...as well as all of the Afrikan or mixed Afrikan blood freedom fighters in every country, island, and area of the so-called "Americas". The story of Kipura in the Americas IS the story of the arts bearing various flavors of misnomers for KIPURA: "Capoeira", "stick lickin", "juego de esapda e garrote", Haitian fencing, the art of the "Grimistas" in Colombia, the resistance of the Maroons, the great battles of the Afrikans in Suriname, Knockin and Kickin, Jailhouse Rock, 52 Blocks, etc etc. The breadth depth and scope of Kipura's teaching and training includes not only the skills birthing the world's greatest fencers, wrestlers, kickboxers, boxers, knife fighters, machete masters, duelists, runners, gymnasts etc etc etc but also the styles of dance, styles of clothing, modes of worship, inimitable fashions of "cool", the styles we use to innovate and electrify in all manner of sports, sex skill preferences, musical instrument inclinations and preferences, educational styles, philosophies and worldview, and more that tie the Afrikans in the Diaspora to Afrika the mother continent; and vice versa.

Here, Brazilians sing of BAMBA of Kongo, and acknowledge that the art, the game and the teachers of what they miscall "Capoeira" are in fact from Bamba.
