INTERNATIONAL FIGHT TIP OF THE WEEK: ENGLAND
Your Cardio Capoeira Cannot Beat Street Boxers
I got a email from one of the students of my Cardio Capoeira detractors. This gentleman lives in London, England and attends one of the largest Cardio Capoeira schools in Western Europe. Unfortunately, he got into a bit of a shoving and punching conflict with "...a gobby tosh..." [ whatever the hell that is ] while riding one of the transportation trains [ I think he called it something like "The Underground", which made me think of Harriet Tubman, maltas, unsanctioned sports combat matches, illicit street life, and for some reason...the Marvel supervillain called The Mole Man ]. In those close quarters, he was smacked multiple times and came out certain that he got the worst of the exchanges. He said he was quite surprised by how "knackered" he was after the short exchanges. He could go an hour straight in the Cardio Capoeira roda, which featured constant movement and jumps but almost zero contact. He said he was "...puffing like a blowfish..." after only about 6 or 7 minutes back and forth with that guy on The Underground.
What frustrated my British friend...let's call him "Colin"...more than anything was that he was WILLING to engage and defend himself, he just DIDN'T HAVE A SKILLFUL RESPONSE. He flailed back just as unskillfully as his antagonist did, and the fact that HE KNEW HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN HE SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO made him less effective than he should have been and wanted to be.
Fortunately other passengers broke up the scuffle, and the entire affair was a minor matter. Nothing more than his ego was bruised. But that set him thinking that he should learn to use his Capoeira more effectively for self defense.
Unfortunately, he reports that his Capoeira Mestres were clearly and obviously incapable of helping him in that area. Some even suggested that he take kickboxing or bjj and let his Cardio Capoeira movement training augment the lessons he learns from these other two combat sports.
Colin was not happy: "But that triples my monthly outlay for training! I came to my Capoeira Mestres because they said it was dance, fight and culture. But it seems there's no fight in their classes, which is the opposite of what they promote innit? Learning that the hard way made me a damp squib" he said to me.
Da hell is a "damp squib"? Squibs are fireworks, right? Also used for hollywood stunts to emulate gunshots or whatever, right? So...he's saying he's disappointed, or he sucked, right? Something like that?
Colin said he saw my viral gun disarm video on YouTube, and that's how he became convinced that I'm the real deal.
"Straightway I bought your course. It was only 100 quid" [ I'm thinking: "What's a quid?" ]. "Glad I did, mate. I paid online and got it right in me email seconds after I paid for it. Studied it hard, so next time in a dustup? I won't be the unlucky dog."
Colin didn't get to use the skills he learned from my Instructional anywhere except his school at first. Immediately he began outperforming his fellow students.
Colin gushed at me via his email: "First day back? I'm dumping everybody. They're all shocked because I'm a [ beginner ] cord in my school, just average or a little below average in skill. Was there for 7 months before I got your course. The training I got from Cardio Capoeira improved my cardiovascular fitness and coordination, and I thought it did my fighting too...but I found out on the train that it didn't.
Your course, Coach, showed me how to actually use what I was taught and many things I wasn't taught. Everybody was stunned by how good I did. And I kept doing it for 4 months straight. Impressed everybody. I only went a couple times a week, but every time I showed up everybody was pleased to see me and impressed with what I was doing. I was chuffed by all this, no question. "
What the hell is "chuffed"? I'm thinking. Seems like it's a good thing, though.
I thought that was going to be all. But...nope.
"So I'm going Chrimbo for my bird..." I have no idea ,y'all. "...when guess who shows his ugly mug? 'Ing Hell, it's that knob of a tosh! He lost the plot on another bloke, who's just covering up his head while this tosh just bashes him, yeah?"
I'm thinking: "Yeah, I guess..."
"I tell that knobhead: Leave it out! Leave it out! He turns to me and says: You want more uh this? I say: Right then, let's have a go. And we get straight into it! Coach Ras, it's over before it even gets good! This knob swings wide, I level change just like you showed, give him an ace of a Mkuki like you did your cousin Matthew in your video! His air goes clean out of him, and the tosh falls flat on his backside!
He looks like he's going to get back up and get back after it, but...so fast I wasn't even thinking about it...I hit him with a aces cartwheel. That kind you showed as an attack where you cartwheel on your cousin on your Instructional. All the blokes in The Underground give a cheer like we're at the football, yeah? The air goes out of him AGAIN, right after he got it back from being knocked down, yeah?
I'm chuffed! [ EDIT: I finally get what 'chuffed' means! Kinda chuffed myself, now! Lol. ]
I says to the bloke: I said LEAVE IT OUT, and he does. That cartwheel has him curled up like he's chundered!"
I have no idea. Chunder? Chundered? Whatever he said, I don't know what it means.
Colin's email goes on: "The bloke he lost the plot on says: "Thanks bruv!" I say: "Nothing to it, mate".
And we leave that wanker on the floor.
Thanks for your help, Coach Ras!"
That's pretty much the whole email.
This is one of the Mkuki, Fremu and follow ups on my cousin Matthew that my British friend "Colin" refers to.
