INTERNATIONAL STREETFIGHT TIP OF THE DAY: USA, HOOD FIGHTS

The reality is that neither your cardio capoeira bjj or Kenpo instructor has a complete answer for these common streetfighting situations
 



Unfortunately, all of the above show the subconscious bias we all have to battle against. The practitioners tend to start their practices for self defense in the ranges, areas, circumstances they feel most comfortable with...instead of starting the situation where the criminal and/or aggressor feels more comfortable with...and working backward from the whole primary gamut of categories of attacks and defenses, to where we feel most comfortable; we're operating with the understanding that the places we feel most comfortable with is usually THE LEAST LIKELY SITUATION TO FIND OURSELVES IN during a conflict.

Why is this so important to do? Because the place we feel MOST comfortable being in? Is NOT HAVING TO FIGHT/BE IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCEA IN THE FIRST PLACE. Everything after that? Is a direct result of the aggressor/criminal/bad guy/whatever pushing the situation into a set of circumstances we don't prefer to be in. 

The #1 defense to any and every attack is not to be where the attack is. In order to reliably and successfully do that? You must be taught criminal psychology and the attending strategies and tactics to reliably manipulate the situation into your favor by eliminating any conflict prior to the possibility of conflict even arises. That's a strategy focused on Prevention and Avoidance, which 99% of teachers don't have any clue how to do. 




I, however, am a certified expert in those matters that most teachers and almost all students don't even know exists. 

The #2 defense vs almost any attack or problem? Is to be able to reliably be able to ESCAPE the attacks. That means quick reaction times, quick agile athletic feet, jumping, diving, rolling, etc. to get away from some fool or criminal attacking you.





But most teachers not only don't know this stuff,  they don't want to teach their students physically demanding, athletic activities reminiscent of the kind of skills and sports we see above.  These teachers not only have zero knowledge of how the autonomic activation of The Fight or Flight instinct dumps adrenalin into our bloodstreams in preparation for our greatest ability to perform, which most of us completely misread as FEAR. These teachers not only lack sufficient knowledge and experience in athletic training and have zero knowledge of the sciences of human performance, they also subscribe to the moneyhungry business person's believe that the difficulty involved in athletic training will drive students away from their schools. 

They clearly haven't taken a good look at how popular sports teams and fitness studios are, and haven't bothered to find profitable fun but effective and innovative ways to bring these realities to the rest of the world. I think I've found a way, but more on that in a different blog at a later time. 

So, what happens in the real world when you don't know the above strategies, don't do the above types of physical training, but DO find yourself facing a street fighting situation ( which is different than a Self Defense situation,  in that Street Fights are mutually agreed upon combat whereas Self Defense situations are criminal assaults oftentimes launched via ambush, misdirection or catchin someone when they're unprepared.  You know. Think Kevin Hart:"She/He wasn't ready!"
