UFC 305 IZZY VS DRISCUS DU PLESSIS

UFC 305 IZZY VS DRISCUS DU PLESSIS

As most of you know…I did predict this ending and the round. Which is very hard for me to take, because I’m a big Izzy fan. He’s my guy at MW in the UFC.

I did see a number of things [ that I’m sure that Izzy and his coach Gene Bareman and other members of CKB saw ] that can be taken from this tough loss that’ll send Izzy back to strapping the belt around his waist in about a year’s time.

But first? Congratulations on the win to DDP and all of his fans.
DDP is still a colonizer, recipient of enormous benefits resulting from stripping the riches, resources of the land of my people and lavishing them upon his invading, colonizing kinfolk and his win stemmed directly from that horrible legacy. And we will get it back, ejecting him from the strap and eject all colonizers from Alkebulan miscalled Africa.
But not now. Because DDP is the rightful champion. He won it not only fair and square but in the way that an actual well rounded MMA champion should do it: by coming back on a surging Izzy [ who was definitely on his way to winning this match and maybe stopping DDP in the 5th ] and exploiting the very difficult to exploit hole in Izzy’s game: specifically extended defense against high powered submissions from his back.
Now let me say something else that can potentially be both very good and very bad news for others seeking the strap, and that is:

DDP is going to change and evolve as his UFC career continues, because he cannot keep taking even half the kind of shots that Izzy was delivering to him and remain healthy, much less champion.

He WILL change and evolve. But will he do it IN TIME to keep his belt for more than a year or two?

DDP is only 30, he’s incredibly tough, rugged, strong, and his MMA IQ still. Somehow up til UFC 305. Continued to be underestimated.

But that won’t continue anymore.

DDP is absolutely deservedly totally confident in himself, his head coach is a MMA genius…this guy should be Coach of The Year, hands down…and DDP will probably hold onto the belt for at least another year. He might even go up to 205 and challenge Pereira there..and what a scrap that would be.

Like I said earlier this year [ and you KNOW my Brazilian cousins…40 percent of my family are Brazilians…had A FIT when I said this ] I favor DDP over Pereira for the same reasons I favoed DDP over Izzy. And Izzy is my main guy.

In fact, as some of you know, I think that DDP going after the two weight champ thing is the fastest and best chance that we have of seeing DDP-Adesanya 2, in 18 months. The only marquis name that DDP hasn't beaten is Chimaev, and however much of a cash cow Chimaev is...he's not the champion. DDP doesn't have to listen to or kowtow to Chimaev.

Yet.

DDP takes a good full extended recovery after each match, and he should because he gets hurt after each championship match. He wears the lumps, bumps and bruises.
He’s going to face the same furnace of fury that Izzy did, as everyone studies his film [ there wasn’t much film on him before, but there’s a growing compilation of it now ] breaks his game down and comes after him with extended preparation to beat him specifically.

Even people who’ve beaten the long time reigning champ..like Weili did to Joanna Champion, Grasso did to Shevchenko, DDP did to Izzy…will have their true grit as champions will be tested. Because the new wave of MMA athletes are coming hard and fast [ DDP and Grasso are part of the them ] and title reigns are getting much shorter as a result.

This state of affairs actually favors champions like Izzy, because Izzy can retool himself without getting injuries or facing the special pressure of constantly being in the eye of the sport's top challengers and the media the way he'd be if he was champion. He can take more time and all the more thoroughly add more offensive grappling at a very high level [ he took DDP down with that Whizzer-Uchi Mata combo ] and once that’s done? He’s a real threat to regain his strap. If he had taken the full two years off that I hoped and prayed and begged the MMA gods for him to do? He would have fully plugged that hole and had a shockingly full MMA set of skills.

We would be saying #andnew . No questions about it.

But Izzy didn’t. And DDP showed without a doubt the reason why he’s deservedly #andstill.

Who’s next for Izzy, does anyone know? It might be the #5 ranked Imavov. If fishes were wishes, it might be Chimaev. Doubt it, though. What do y’all think?
