Boxing and Esquiva Lateral in Kipura: The Real "Capoeira"

Boxing and Esquiva Lateral in Kipura: The Real "Capoeira" The art of boxing, celebrated for its precise movements and defensive techniques, shares an often-overlooked lineage with the ancient martial traditions of Alkebulan (miscalled Africa). Among these, Kipura—a dynamic martial art originating from the Kongo—has left a profound imprint on modern combat styles. This article explores the deep connections between Kipura, boxing, and the misunderstood "Esquiva Lateral," revealing its roots in the real art of Capoeira and its authentic applications. The Esquiva Lateral and Kipura: Misunderstood Origins In the realm of Capoeira, the "Esquiva Lateral" is often simplified into a low, evasive movement. However, as Mwalimu Mtaalam Ras Fletcher, creator of Njia Uhuru Kipura and head coach of The ATACX Gym, has revealed, this interpretation misses the depth of the stance known in Kipura as “Etele ya Ngomba” or "Mteremko Ya Mlima" in Swahili (translated ...

  ### Title: The Forgotten Art of Fist Fighting in Capoeira: A Historical Exploration **Word Count:** 600   **Reading Time:** 3-4 minutes --- The art of fist fighting, or **Lisana ya Maboko** in Lingala and **Ujuzi Mapigano wa Ngumi** or **Michezo wa Ngumi** in Swahili, was an integral part of the combat practices in Capoeira's early history. Raphael Bluteau, in 1712, misnamed this intricate and diverse martial art from Kongo as "Capoeira." Originally, Capoeira encompassed a wide range of fighting techniques, including open-hand strikes, headbutts, elbows, knees, sweeps, grappling, weapon use, and unique footwork, all of which were functional for combat. This comprehensive approach to combat was a hallmark of the Kipura techniques from Kongo. ### Historical Context and Migration Capoeira's roots can be traced back to the African continent, particularly Alkebulan and Kongo, where diverse martial arts were practiced. When enslaved Africans were forcibly brought to the N...

**Title: Challenging the Status Quo: Fist Fighting Skills in Cardio Capoeira (Word Count: 397 | Estimated Reading Time: 2-3 Minutes)** This blog post addresses a common type of fist fight that occurs at any time in multiple places worldwide within human civilization. Specifically, it questions the absence of fist fighting skills in Cardio Capoeira, leaving practitioners wholly vulnerable to the common two-fisted attack employed by aggressors ranging from the youngest of children to the most hardened of criminals. How would Cardio Capoeira practitioners deal with such real-world fist fights? This question forms the crux of our discussion. **The Legacy of Kipura** Throughout history, Kipura warriors have embodied the spirit of jagunjagun, skilled combatants revered for their prowess in warfare. The term "jagunço" in Brazilian Portuguese is believed to have originated from "jagunjagun," drawing parallels between the martial traditions of the Yoruba people and the leg...

Image
Beautiful, dangerous, brilliant, passionate, dancing, loving, vengeful, nurturing, warrior Osun. One of the crucial embodiments of The Water Principle in the NJIA UHURU fighting art of my family, Osun has as many expressions as there are passions and possibilities for the rivers and lakes of Earth...and space. [ What space "rivers"? Have you heard of rivers of molecules moving, interacting, and dancing The Dance of Eternity with each other? This is how electrically "neutral" molecules...molecules without a positive or negative charge...become charged positively or negatively. It's also how they return to an electrically neutral state, via Valence Electron movements. This is merely part of The Dance of Eternity that Osun dances and teaches. ] Watch this video below. Be blown away. And realize how your Cardio Capoeira Mestre knows none of the things that he/she/they claim to know. And notice the date the suddenly got better...and compare that date wi...

ATACX GYM MKAO SIRI WAWINDAJI AKA NEGATIVA APPLICATIONS

Image
And this is the video...ATACX GYM MKAO SIRI WAWINDAJI..."Posture of The Hidden Hunter"...popularly miscalled NEGATIVA for centuries. Because my family art of Njia Uhuru Kipura has returned the modernized, functionalized, original comprehensives skills of Kipura self defense APPLICATIONS...which has offended and inspired to more realistic, greater expressions of capoeira many capoeiristas around the world. What do you think of it? Leave comments below, like and share.

WHY ARE CAPOEIRISTAS AFRAID OF CAPOEIRA?

Image
My "Negativa Applications" video has caused quite a stir amongst a number of Capoeiristas on Facebook, Google+ and in various online communities. I find myself heartened by the positive energy, piercing intelligence, perceptiveness and encouragement offered in these discussions by my growing list of supporters. I also find myself alternately amused by and smh@ some of the comments that my detractors make. Basically, my detractors think that Capoeira is a beautiful acrobatic calisthenics routine practiced to Capoeira music in a roda. Contact is very rare, functional training is essentially nonexistent. True sparring is forbidden. Candomble is nowhere to be found. What these detractors practice by and large is a Capoeira influenced musical fitness workout. While they are doing this Capoeira influenced workout, they sing songs about actual Capoeiristas who actually fight and who actually detailed their fighting and living experience with Capoeira. At the end of the tra...

ATACX GYM Capoeira: U-Punch & Kick

Image
This is a vicious and slick use of  the knee, head butt, and U-Punch. I catch people with it all the time. The followup ground kick is extremely violent and usually enough to KO even the biggest meanest BG who might mess with you. Like I said many times before: capoeira is a devastating fighting martial art. Let's never forge that and practice it accordingly, or we will LOSE our beloved capoeira as it becomes some shallow folk dance and then withers away into an obscure, tragic death.

ATACX GYM CAPOEIRA HOCKEY PUNCH DEFENSE 2

FIGHTING FLOREIO VS MULTIFIGHT

Image
If you fight with your capoeira, you will discover that there are maaaannny maaany magnificent options available to you that aren't as available or aren't available at all to other stylists. Capoeira is a FIGHTING art, and it's a travesty to not explore the mighty combat options available in its comprehensive arsenal of movement. Even if you don't train capoeira for its combat benefits? Like cardio kickboxing, you should know and practice the applications at least during shadowboxing and vs mitts, airshields, the heavy bag, etc. Your roda game will SKYROCKET as a result. If you don't? Your capoeira will never develope beyond a particular level; imagine a shadowboxer who doesn't know why or how he/she/they use their techniques; they don't know the purpose of each movement. Without context? One's skill is both underdeveloped and directionless; rudderless as a boat on stormy seas.

CAPOEIRA CLINCH: SNAKING HANDS-HEAD BUTT-TAKEDOWN-BANANEIRA

Image
I really like this technique because alot of people have no idea whatsoever that Capoeira has vicious clinch techniques, despite the fact that African martial arts are known for skillful fast and powerful wrestlers and the clever and brutal use of the head butt. The clinch--standing or on the ground--is the best place to launch the head butt. The hand chops to the neck are absolutely vital, as the chops combined with the clinch cause your opponent's head to swing in a half circle which [ combined with the heavy hand snap down ] really magnifies the vicious brutality of the head butt. Notice how I fired the head butt at an angle, using the full power of my ginga, my whole body movement and the combination of my opponent being snapped forward and my head spearing from an unprotected angle. I'm deliberately targeting his temple, maximizing my likelihood of scoring a KO. You will most definitely stun your opponent at least briefly with this move. That's what makes the k...

REAL WORLD GINGA AND AU VS SINGLE AND MULTIPLE OPPONENTS

Image
This is a really excellent way to use capoeira in a real fight vs multiple opponents at once. It also shows the real world viability and utility of the floreios. Those fancy moves really serve a purpose combatively and are very very important to have and know. You'll succeed the great majority of the time because most of your opponents will be shocked and freeze a fraction of a second or more while you execute your combat floreios and you'll catch him more times than not if you set it up properly. Please comment my blogs, comment and like my videos and sub my Channel. This is how I know that you're out there and you're paying attention to my blogs. CAPOEIRA:PASSAGEM DE MEIA LUA TO SLEEPER HOLD

Image
One of the slicker, meaner ways that I establish the sleeper hold on unsuspecting training partners. I prefer the entry I use when I use my left knee to knee hard my opponent's lead thigh, then place my left foot on or slightly outside of my partner's lead leg and flow without a break into the passagem and either sweep my opponent or lock a sleeper on to him. Either way? If you enter properly with the lead kick/knee to his lead thigh/knee, blast hard and fast with a Speed Trap and/or Power Trap [ singly or in combination ] the guy will be set up perfectly for your passagem de meia lua. You'll either sweep him or catch him in that RNC. Please comment my blogs and like, comment and sub my videos and Channels. We're new and we're renegades, so we need all the help that you are willing to offer. Thank you!

ATACX GYM CAPOEIRA: TESOURO TO ACHILLES LOCK

Image
This video is in response to frequent requests I've had regarding displaying the submission arsenal of capoeira and my frequent use of same in kickboxing, martial arts and capoeira gyms. Many capoeira instructors aren't aware that capoeira has a wicked array of submission locks throws, takedowns, etc. which derive from the African martial arts preceding disciplines like Laamb batuque and many other wrestling locking throwing striking weapon using African arts. Capoeira has heavily heavily impacted bjj, as the entirety of bjj's flowing movements come directly from capoeira...but bjj has also impacted capoeira. Capoeira--being the magical chameleon full of brilliance and malandragem that it is--has absorbed many bjj methods but in doing so has simply reemphasized many techniques which it already had. For instance, in the leg lock that I use in this video? The full expression of the technique requires me to flow up to my feet without stopping in a movement approaching esqu...
