TYSON FURY VS USYK: WHAT DID I TELL YOU GUYS?
What did I tell you guys? Usyk won. Remember how many of you Fury Faithful howled at me for being "completely out of my gourd" [ and many FAR less pleasant things ] when I stated that Usyk would cleanly outbox Fury? All of you roared at me. Remember? I sure do.
Yall quiet as hell now, and yes I'm petty enough to say that I am loving this.
But not even I expected Usyk to get as close as he was to stopping Fury.
No. Before you guys even start, no. I don't think that Usyk would have gotten Fury with a ten count. If The Bomb Squad Mr. Deontay Wilder himself didn't KO a more or less prime Fury, I don't think that Usyk could KO even this faded form of Fury.
I do think that Usyk would have TKO'd Fury. The referee would have stepped in and saved Fury from himself.
But for real, y'all. Saudi Arabia is real with the boxing! The long-awaited undisputed heavyweight title fight between Usyk and Fury lived up to the hype. Usyk showed that nonstop movement, sharp boxing IQ, serious focus and determination, battling through Fury's early antics and using his skill to turn the tide. That left hook in the 9th round was a thing of beauty, nearly knocking Fury out cold. Fury's survival instincts kicked in, but he was clearly dazed for the remainder of the fight. A rematch seems inevitable, though the undisputed status may be off the table due to mandatory challengers.
What I tell y’all bout Jai?! Jai Opetaia regaining the cruiserweight title against Briedis was a performance that’s probably going to force a threepeat...and that's why I kept telling you guys I wasn't going to make any other prediction other than what I kept saying since Jai lost the cruiserweight title: "Do NOT sleep on Jai!" And Anthony Cacace's smokin of Joe Cordina for the IBF super featherweight belt was a shocker. Catching Cordina early and never letting up? Nobody outside of Cacae himself saw that coming, and don’t you lie and say you saw it coming, man. We know you DIDN’T.
So. Prediction for Usyk-Fury 3? Does Fury have it within him for one more miracle performance?
I gotta say YES. Fury does. Fury is still a huge man, and if he takes his time to fully recover, kicks up his conditioning, ties Usyk up with charging tie ups and putting his weight on Usyk early? Fury could conceivably have enough left in the gas tank to outbox and tie up Usyk in the latter rounds.
But I don't think that's happening. I think it's 60/40 Usyk. And Usyk? Is just getting better and better. I think he'll usher in a new wave of heavyweights and Fury...having nothing whatsoever left to prove...will retire.
On the other hand. If Fury wins, we have a mandatory threematch here. The politics and money guys are actually behind Fury WINNING the rematch, so they can make even MORE loot off these guys and the event they create. And in the threematch? They'll have USYK with the political edge, because Fury will retire soon [ thus depriving them of money ] and they want an established cash cow to keep bringing in those big money events for them. And Usyk? Is that guy.
On the other OTHER hand? If Fury goes out winner of 2 of 3? That forces EVERYONE to scramble, making Saudi Arabia a potential host for AN ENTIRE TOURNAMENT OF HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING, making them a big money hotspot every 2-3 months or so.
Hmmm...
...lemme stop. Congratulations to Usyk and Fury! Long Live The New King...
...until next time?
